During tonight’s Common Council meeting, city aldermen are expected to vote on a resolution for a consulting agreement with Bergmann Associates to begin the second part of a comprehensive study of the brownfields. The brownfields, a 500-acre former industrial site where contamination has impeded redevelopment, are located off of Buffalo Street near Interstate 86.
Bergmann’s approval to move forward with the study also is contingent on approval by the New York Department of State, which is helping oversee the site’s remediation, said Mary George, program coordinator for the city’s Community Development Department.
The study is the next step in planning for the brownfield’s future. It will build upon a previous examination of the property parcel in which the city took an overall look at the site’s potential for redevelopment.
